5 Steps to Sleeping
5 Steps to Sleeping
Sleep; such an easy concept yet, as a mom, it’s so hard to accomplish. I struggled to get Kreed to sleep well for the first year of his life. He would wake up several times throughout the night, not needing anything other than a short cuddle and back to sleep he would go. At first I relished in these frequent night time cuddle sessions but eventually realized that neither of us were getting the adequate sleep we needed. I went on a quest for healthy sleeping solutions. At month thirteen I am pleased to report that I have found several things that assist in getting Kreed to sleep and keep him asleep and I’m so excited to share these tips with you!
1.Bathtime- I love giving Kreed a bath before bed to get him calmed down and squeaky clean! I like to use lavender bath wash and lotion. The lavender scent helps us both relax.
2. Good Pajamas- I know, personally, I sleep better when I’m comfortable. I hate wearing socks and get hot easily. So, for Kreed, I took these same things into consideration. That’s when I found Finn and Emma. While they specialize in a multitude of things, I have found that their jammies are especially wonderful! They are made of all organic and eco-safe materials and are incredibly soft and breathable. They even stretch to grow with your child so that they can be worn longer which is a major mom win! Kreed wears his every night (when I remember to actually dry the laundry that is).
3. A Cozy Spot- We love to read before bed and our favorite spot to get cozy is on our Lorena Canals bear rug. This rug is perfection! They are handmade in India and all natural, which makes me feel really great about letting Kreed cuddle up on it! The best part? It’s machine washable so anytime he decides to spill his milk on it, I can just throw it into the washing machine and it’s ready for story time the next night.
4. Books, Books, Books- As I mentioned, we love to read! Some of our current favorites are “The Little Boy Who Lost His Name”, “God Gave Us You”, and “Where the Wild Things are”. I’d love to hear your suggestions for good bedtime reading material in the comments below!
5. A Safe Place for Zzz- Last but certainly not least in the equation that leads to a good night’s sleep is Kreed’s DockATot. I have so many wonderful things to say about the DockATot. It’s literally a magical baby sleep zone! There are two sizes available, the deluxe and the grand. Kreed is currently using the grand size, and I see him using it for quite some time! (It says 36 months but this 26-year-old mama is comfy napping in it so I think he will be able to make it last awhile!) With its all-natural breathable cotton material, it makes for the prefect temperature controlled sleep space.
I am so happy and relieved to finally have Kreed sleeping well! Knock on wood that this trend continues! If you are having sleep troubles, I urge you to try these tips and see if they help your child sleep better!
